Artist's Statement:
The technique of collage: re-arranged paintings created on papers of various textures, weights and properties, allows me to expand my perception of the medium of watercolor. The wonder of collage is that even a somewhat disappointing outing with paint and paper, will nearly always bring at least one glimmer of delight—which will appear as a part of a larger whole—somewhere.
The natural layering of the landscape tirelessly beckons, whether a mountain’s jutting angles, crevices and striations, or the sea’s thrashing movement, or undulating calm and peacefulness. Nature’s wonders alter with the seasons, the time of day and the atmosphere. My vision is to contemplate and re-imagine the ever changing natural layering –its grandeur and its serenity—through texture, light and color.
The introduction into my work of natural found barks, seaweeds and organic matter, as well as metals and metallic paints, inks, gouache, and ground precious stone found in India, reflects a curiosity about the materials that further enhance creativity and artistic expression.
Ultimately, it is my goal to take the viewer on an imaginative journey into memory, reflection and solace.
